I owe you guys a listen of the winner,
Thanks to Sun for providing the drums.

votepage
Hi all,
As promised, here is the votepage. Before Monday, too!
I have beefed up Riffs 2&3 for your listening pleasure, a tentative half-assed humming is included in Riff3. Made no change to Riff1
I did write another riff but I cbf recording it properly. It's closest in sound to Rooftops, with the fast strumming. Though that's not saying much at all. I guess it is kinda like Dawn (if you remember that). It's not included in the vote because I didn't have enough time to spend splicing and editing it.
So here are the links to the SoundCloud files. Tell me if you think if you think I took one of them in a bad direction :L. Please don't judge on the quality of my singing, tyvm =P
Riff1 - no change, don't need to listen if you've heard it before
Riff2 - Added second clean guitar, improved the distortion part.
Riff3 - Added vocals, added a bassline played on a normal guitar.
NOW comes the important part! The democracy that developing countries so desperately need, and must be shown the glory of democracy through stuff like bombs and bullets. And having their oil stolen.
And even better you can vote once per day so that's for if you really give a crap. (Sorry if you voted before 11pm on 15-Apr. I had to redo the poll cos it didn't trace results properly cos I linked it incorrectly =P)
Thanks for voting!
I think I'll tally up the scores once I have around 50-ish votes (I won't be able to tell if you vote multiple times across different days). And I probably won't make a new post until I reach the vote goal, so I can keep this at the top =P

Harro,
I was digging up some of my older ideas to see if any of them are more suitable. Also, based on the few suggestions I've got, I think I know what direction we're headed in.
So what I'm going to do here is let you guys vote on these SoundCloud riffs - they're all pretty short. In each I have one repeat of a verse riff, and one repeat of a chorus riff. Just to have a taste.
I'm going to wait till Monday to open up the votes, just in case someone submits any compositions before then. Here is just a sampler. (If you're on Google Reader you'll need to actually come onto the blog page to see the widgets - I KNOW, SO LOW TECH RIGHT)
On a related note (I think I may overuse this pun) - I think I'll start weeding out peepz who don't ever visit :L
The one you've probably already heard. Sad nostalgia.
A new (to you) one - happy nostalgia
Another new one - sounds like a generic goodbye song.
Voting will probably open up in a new post. Any replies will be read but not "counted" until I use a free HTML poll-maker :P
Suggestions and stuff are always wilkommen.

Yayay been slightly lazy with Project Semibreve.
But I'm having a "what are we actually doing" moment.
I can't decide whether I want a happy or sad or ridiculous or stupid song.
Hence I would like to leave some homework - everyone link me to a song that you think captures the tone of how you would like the final assembly to sound.
It doesn't have to be the complete sound of the song that takes your fancy - just the riff or the drums or the vocals or something that stylistically you think feels right, and appropriate for this occasion.
Right now the folder has tumbleweeds rolling through despite many volunteerings and so needs some revival.
Don't worry, I ain't gonna be plagiarising, just seeing whether it's punk or metal or radio pop that our grade thinks is appropriate for our leaving.
And that should be about it for now. Cyaz.
[List for my own reference so I can see them all in the same place]
Knockin' On Heaven's Door (Cover) - Guns 'N' Roses
Happy Ending - Mika
Re: Your Brains - Jonathan Coulton
Rooftops - lostprophets
Nothing On You - B.O.B ft Bruno Mars [Chorus]

Woo kickstarted invitations to people for composition/lyric-ing!
One day, soon, we might be ready to record yay!
Volunteers are still appreciated though! =D
On a different note (hawhaw) I found out that the Zoom H1 Handy Recorder can be used as a USB mic with the new firmware update. That means infinite quality Skype and computer recordings =D =D =D. ZERO PEAKING, EVERYONE. So now I can do everything at the computer! Record straight into Wavepad or Audacity, and then YAY EDIT TIME STRAIGHT AWAY. And I can play to a click track too omg the possibilities are endless.
EDIT: A minor gush that nobody except like 3 people will care about - OMG GUITAR PRO 6 FINALLY HAS A GRAND STAFF. NO MORE TRACK1 - PIANO RHS, TRACK2 - PIANO LHS. SO HAPPY.

Yay the list of people who are interested are growing! Thanks Vaish, Susmitha, LJ, Matt, Shelley, Albert =D
I'm a little worried that maybe stylistically peeps may not agree with the song. I don't know if people visualised it as happy-go-luck or super virtuousic or what... sooo I made a more beautiful version of the sample.
Jokes I made the beautiful version of the sample as proof of concept.
Should I put it on SoundCloud... hmmm :P.
EDIT: Yeah why not. I'll put it on. Don't bash my singing =P
This track comprises of 3 clean guitar tracks, 3 vocals tracks, and 2 distorted guitar tracks. I only wrote 1 vocal melody atm but with some more composers we can go nuts on harmonising if that floats your boat. In case it wasn't clear, that is indeed the tentative chorus to Project Semibreve.
It still feels bloody empty without a bass and drums but oh well a demo's only a demo.
I need a catchy name - somebody suggest one! My tentative naming is "Project Semibreve" atm =P. Then we'll give the song a real name later. But the project needs to have a flash name 8DD
To the people who explicitly said they'd like to help, I will send out an invite to sync the files. PLEASE TELL ME EXPLICITLY IF YOU WANT TO HELP, I'm I don't want to make any assumptions =P.
If you volunteered for video tech I'll send you an invite a bit later because right now I don't have anything to put into that folder and that's just awkward.
Possible things you may be good at:
Composition/Lyrics (need these guys first!! Preferred program Guitar Pro 6, set up will be sync'd to you if you don't have it!)
Sound Techs (preferred program: Audacity)
Video Techs (preferred program: Adobe Premiere)
Instrument players (Guitar, Bass, Drums, Strings, Piano, + whatever!)
Admin-y people (to help gather the sound/video files. This includes people who know how to sing and can help those that are struggling to get their note =))
Please ask for more than one if you are good at more than one =D
Anyone fancy themselves a tune-writer or a poet? I NEED BLACKUP.

Last night I had an idea that was intoxicating.
In fact I didn't sleep until 2, but cause/correlation I can't tell if it was boredom from not being to sleep that spurred this idea, or that this idea kept me awake.
I had a vision of a song that we make, as a grade. Where in the verses, each person in the grade sings one note/one word. And they take a video of themselves singing that note/word.
Then, we take all those videos, splice them together; take the audio, splice that together. Do some sound techy stuff and mix it all together.
I did consider the factor that some people aren't singers and have trouble carrying a tune, but I'm sure with some help from someone more musically oriented they would easily get just one note on pitch, right? =D
In fact I got so carried away that I wrote a preliminary chorus. (Why do the muses strike when I need to sleep, or can't play guitar to work out the notes?). I don't especially fancy my B-grade singing free and floating on the internet, but if you'd like I'd be happy to send you a sample of what I came up with (just ask =P). Be warned, I recorded through Apple earphones because I wanted to be able to stand up, sing, play guitar, and be heard at the same time, so it peaks like a motherfucker, on top of my B-grade singing :L.
But the reason I post this is that obviously I can't do it alone - first and foremost, I need everyone's voice sample, but way before that I must enlist the help of people like composers (probably 1 or 2 more), sound techs, video techs, instrument players, and a plethora of other jobs that I haven't conceived of yet.
So, think we can do this before our graduation assembly? It would be the coolest memento ever! You can be like "our grade made a song. What did your grade do hmm?"
Guess I'm asking two things - who likes this, who thinks this is lame, and finally, who'd like to help?
Though some requirements I guess, I'd rather have composers that agree with me stylistically, sound techs who have a rudimentary knowledge of how to read music (just the rhythm will do), and instrument players who are competent :L. Stylistically I can see guitars (electric + bass, acoustic mebbe strumming along), strings, piano if anyone composes pop, and backup vox would be nice but I doubt anyone can be bothered working that hard. Though I'm open to weird and wonderful additions :L
So yeahhh leave a comment, MSN me, or if you're feeling weird, text me. I would like to know what you think and if this is possible!
[Thanks to Vaish, Susmitha, LJ, Matt (so far)! We need to find ourselves some composers and this can actually go underway!]
